Different Business Models of Laundry and dry cleaning

To start with laundry and dry-cleaning business you should understand different models.

There are basically 5 different models in the industries. Some of the models are very common. If a model is common, it does not mean that it is cost-effective but they are just copied blindly in India as usual.

The models are:

  1. Collection centre model

  2. Plant model

  3. Laundromat

  4. Premium dry-cleaning model

  5. Live studio model

Collection Centre laundry model:

It is basically only a shop to collect and deliver cloth, in simple word collection point. The Shop is connected to the plant. In many cases, the plant is not owned by the collection centre owner. They usually outsource the work. The pickup car usually comes every evening to pick the unprocessed garment and delivery the processed cloth. This is the most basic form of the laundry and dries cleaning shop.

Plant model:

A big plant is installed in the outer of the city and all the garments are collected from different shops. Usually, the plant owner has 3 shops and he takes the job of other collection centres. So in this way, collection centres outsource their work to the plant. This is the most common type of laundry and dry cleaning business model in India.

Laundromat:

A laundromat is a place where people wash their clothes. It is usually self-service. This business model may or may not have a pick-and-drop facility. India has seen quite a growth of this model in recent years. Coined laundromats are very popular in Europe as well as in American states. This model is quite new to the Indian community.

Premium dry cleaning model:

In this model, only dry cleaning is done. This model is quite old in India. A small plant is set up in the back of a shop where the dry clean machine is set up or hand dry cleaning is done. Usually, a press is been installed in the front of the shop and express pricing is provided to the customer. In the shop, mostly dry-cleaning garments are being processed.

Live studio model:

This is the latest concept in the dry cleaning and laundry industry. It has omitted all the disadvantages of the all old models. In a live studio, machines are being set up in the shop, and express service of dry cleaning, laundry, wet cleaning, and Express pressing or provided to the customer. The best part of this model is its efficiency and less operating cost as well as low investment. 3 to 4 persons are required to operate this model

One of the best benefits of life studio is that it’s a one-stop solution for every cleaning need.

Before starting the Laundry or dry-cleaning business you should first know the calculation part and also which machines are to be installed. Capacity should also be kept in mind while starting this business. Many times we have seen that Machine selling companies sell many machines which are not used full for the person. One of the biggest problems in India's laundry and dry cleaning market is that the software-selling companies are not experienced dry cleaners nor are machine and chemical selling companies experienced. Their only and only motive is not to educate the customer but to sell their products. Due to this the shop owner spent a lot of money and face a downfall before starting its first shop.
