The requirement to start a dry cleaning business
Well, the requirement to open a dry cleaning business depends on the capacity of the garments you want to process per day. I have a separate chapter on how to calculate the load or number of the garment to find out the capacity. But for now, we will study the dry-cleaning shop of 55-75 pc. processing capacity.
To start the dry cleaning shop we need
- ELECTRIC LOAD nearly 15 kW.
- WATER- 1000 litre per day.
- Drainage system- 6-inch pipe.
- Area- 400-450 Sq.ft

- 12 kg multi solvent dry cleaning machine.( cold filtration and 2 tank model)
- A 200-litre drum of hydrocarbon.
- boiler 4kW automatic.
- Press stable
- Mini spotting machine.

- Seitz advance spotting kit.
- Starch 8515
- Cuff and collar.
- Dry cleaning detergent.
Other requirements to start a dry cleaning business
We live in a country where rules are made after someone broke them but as per our knowledge, we don't have to take any kind of certification before starting this dry cleaning business. Though it comes under the orange category according to the government of India. To run a single shop you need at least 3 persons
- Dry cleaning master - 17k to 20k salary.
- Assistance pressman - 12k to 15k salary
- Counter Manager- 15k salary
- Delivery boy - 10k to 12k salary.
Different models of dry cleaning
In India, we have seen mostly Hub n Spoke base dry cleaning shops. In which a collection centre is assisted by the plant which is normally located in a remote location. Garments are collected and tagged and they are sent to the plants. In-Plant these garments are then dry clean and processed and sent to the collection centre. Opening only a dry cleaning shop is not a great choice because and cannot serve laundry customers moreover it's true that dry cleaning is more profitable than laundry but laundry gives you a regular source of income.
